How to Care for an Australian Hardwood Presentation Board
Australian hardwood is a natural material. A considered care routine helps preserve the finish, stability and tactile character of a presentation board while allowing the timber to develop naturally through use.
Clean promptly and gently
Follow the care instructions supplied with your individual work. As a general principle, remove food residue promptly, avoid prolonged soaking and dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning. Do not place a timber work in a dishwasher unless its supplied instructions expressly say it is suitable.
Avoid prolonged moisture and uncontrolled heat
Timber responds to changes in moisture and temperature. Avoid leaving the work wet, storing it against a persistently damp surface or placing uncontrolled heat directly onto the timber.
Respect the existing finish
Do not apply another oil, wax, cleaner or refinishing product simply because it is marketed for timber. Compatibility depends on the species, existing finish and intended use. Check the guidance supplied with your work before applying another treatment.
Store with airflow
When practical, allow air to circulate around the work and avoid long-term storage in a location exposed to excessive moisture, direct weather or strong heat.
Natural marks versus damage
Grain, figure, colour variation and natural markings are part of the material identity of Australian hardwood. If you are unsure whether a change is normal timber character or needs attention, contact Provenance with photographs and the work details before attempting a repair.
