What Is a Certificate of Provenance?
A Certificate of Provenance is a record that connects an individual work to the information documented for it. For Provenance Board Co., the certificate is part of the identity of an eligible work: a concise record intended to remain with the piece as it is used, gifted and passed on.
What the certificate records
The exact fields depend on the work and collection, but may include the work’s title, collection, individual number, timber species, recorded origin information, dimensions, finish, creation details and authentication information.
Why individuality matters
Australian hardwood carries natural variation in grain, figure, colour and markings. Two works made to the same collection design will therefore never present exactly the same material character. The certificate documents the individual work rather than pretending natural timber can be perfectly repeated.
How the purchase flow works
Certificate personalisation is completed in the dedicated purchase flow rather than on every product page. When an order contains more than one eligible work, the relevant certificate details are recorded separately for each eligible cart line.
A record designed to stay with the work
The value of documentation is continuity. Keeping the Certificate of Provenance with the work preserves its recorded identity and provides a clear reference for future owners.
